Types of Hard Hats.

How many types of hard hats are there. Type I Hard Hats are intended to reduce the force of impact resulting from a blow only to the top of the head. These are commonly used at construction sites and other areas where work is done high above the ground which increases the risk of an object being dropped and causing injury. ANSI and OSHA created a great number of safety rule regulations.

There are basically only two types of hard hats. Type I and Type II. You may have considered and some of them may be new to you.

First patented by Bullard in 1919 one of the earliest versions of a true hard hat came in a single color. To meet OSHA requirements hard hats must meet ANSI Z891-1986 which separates protective helmets into different types and classes. One thing is for certain though hard hats prevent injuries and save lives.

Your hard hats must meet with one of the three classes. ANSI Type II CSA Type 2 hard hats meet both vertical and lateral impact and penetration requirements and have a foam inner liner made of expanded polystyrene EPS. The classes are based on the varying levels of electrical hazard protection that is offered.

This standard consists of Type 1 and Type 2 Helmets. Hard hat type refers to the area of the head that any hard hat protects. ANSI Z891 defines two types of hard hats and establishes three classes of hard hats based on the level of electrical hazard protection provided.

This form of impact for example may result from a hammer or nail gun falling from above. Type I offers protection to the top of the head and is commonly used in the United States Type II offers protection to the top and sides of the head and is commonly used in Europe. Hard hats are divided into two main categories and five different classifications and the most appropriate hard hat must be selected based on the highest risk of the work environment.
